Electrical System Check $150

Frequent checks of your RV’s three different electrical systems are important to ensure consistent power supplied to your rig for comfort and safety. All RV’s are equipped with 120V AC house power circuits which provide the high amperage current your major appliances require to perform as they are designed. Your RV also has a 12V DC coach power circuit which are the “brains” of most electrical operations providing control signals to turn on larger loads and run low voltage lighting. Lastly, towable RV’s have a 12V DC chassis system which powers things like marker lights and wheel brakes. Here’s how routine maintenance benefits your electrical system:

Benefits of Regular Electrical System Checks:

  1. Consistent Power: Electrical failures are the number one causes of RV system issues. Clean, consistent power at the required wattage is paramount for proper operation of all of your RV systems.

  2. Prevention of Repairs and Breakdowns: The harsh temperatures and vibration environments that RV’s experience on a regular basis, demand frequent checks and diligent care to maintain top performance. In this way, RV systems are very different from residential electrical requirements where a set it and forget it mindset is not as risky.

  3. Improved Efficiency: Clean, tight electrical connections conduct current much more efficiently than loose or dirty, high resistance junctions. High resistance circuits not only degrade electrical performance, but can create safety hazards from electrical shock or fire.

  4. Personal Safety: High voltage and bad grounds don’t mix! A proper electrical system check will ensure safety devices such as GFCI circuits and breakers are operating properly. Electrical shock hazards in a poorly grounded RV is a serious concern. A hot skin test will confirm that your RV itself doesn’t pose a shock hazard for anyone who touches it.

Service Includes:

  1. Main Power Panel Check: Your electrical distribution panel is the heart of your system. Cleaning, tightening and labeling these connections are not only the key to electrical system performance, but also a great periodic maintenance item to stay on top of.

  2. Coach Battery Check: Modern deep cycle lead acid or lithium coach batteries are relatively low maintenance, but they still need clean connections to properly conduct voltage. In addition to cleaning electrical connections, we’ll conduct a load test and verify fluid levels if applicable.

  3. Shore Power Cord Inspection: One of the highest wearing items in RV electrical systems, your heavy 30amp or 50amp cord sees a lot of abuse. Inspecting and cleaning the plug’s brass spade contacts is your first line of defense against electrical issues.

  4. Converter and Inverter Checks: Converters convert AC power to DC power and serve as one of the key components to all RV electrical systems providing DC power for both coach use and battery charging. Inverters convert DC power to AC power to run AC only components when you aren’t hooked to shore power. Both of these devices should be regularly inspected and their proper outputs confirmed.

LP System Check $150

Liquid Petroleum or LP Gas is used for everything from cooking food to heating the air for our comfort. You may also know that the LP system can serve as a backup heating source for hot water and can even power absorption-type refrigerators. RV’s equipped with LP systems benefit from having redundant power sources and extra BTU’s onboard when camping off grid. For reliable operation, this system should periodically be inspected for leaks and corrosion. Safety is always a concern when dealing with a flammable and toxic substance. Here’s how routine maintenance benefits your LP system:

Benefits of Regular LP System Checks:

  1. Leak Detection: RV’s experience harsh environments with more temperature changes and vibration than any home system will ever see. Frequent leak checks are important to not only ensure safe use of hazardous gas, but also to maintain your investment and not lose those valuable BTU’s to the atmosphere.

  2. Prevention of Unexpected Loss of Energy: Mid vacation, especially in a remote location, is the last place you want to realize you are without heat, hot water or refrigeration. With no place to cook the day’s catch, your getaway could be ruined without LP in the tanks. While the above scenario is extreme, the rising cost of propane is reality. A properly sealed system will not only save your trip, but also serve to protect your investment.

  3. Backup Power: Many of your RV’s electrical components have a backup power source supplied by propane. A properly functioning LP system can help mitigate the inconvenience of electrical failures. For these same reasons, propane allows your RV to serve as a great home preparedness device in the event of a natural disaster. Two is one and one is none when it comes to being prepared.

  4. Personal Safety: Flammable gases are inherently dangerous, professional system checks and pressure tests give you peace of mind knowing that you and your loved ones have a safe RV.

Service Includes:

  1. Leak Detection Check: We will use a manometer to conduct a time pressure drop test to ensure your system is maintaining pressure within its designed specifications.

  2. Gas Line Inspection: Not all manufacturers take the same care in routing and protecting fragile gas lines throughout your RV. Over time, these lines can move around or chafe to the point of being compromised. We’ll trace the system and alert you to any potential problems.

  3. Gas Detector Check: Propane capable RV’s are required to be equipped with LP gas and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors. We’ll test them for proper operation and confirm they are working properly. You can sleep soundly knowing that even if you don’t smell ethyl mercaptan your safety devices will alert you to a leak.

Dump Valve Maintenance $50

Regular maintenance of your RV holding tank dump valves is crucial for long service life and reliable operations. The last thing any camper wants are problems with their grey or black tank holding systems. As one of the only moving parts, your tank valves are the weak point in this entire system. Here’s how routine maintenance benefits your waste valves:

Benefits of Regular Dump Valve Maintenance:

  1. Ease of Operation: Regular service helps prevent the buildup of dirt and corrosion on your valve actuator rods and remote operation cables if equipped.

  2. Prevention of Leaks or Failures: Routine maintenance helps ensure valves are closing and seating properly which ultimately leads to less leaking and more control of tank contents.

  3. Extended Service: Reliable valve operation might not be at the top of your camping experience wish list, but if you have a failure, it will be. RV gate valves are relatively simple devices, but due to their critical nature and harsh environment, they need regular lubrication.

  4. Sanitation: Not only are waste tank contents harmful, but their uncontrolled leaking or spilling can create an environmental hazard. Proper control of waste water is essential for your health and sanitation and for recreation activities in and around your RV.

Service Includes:

  1. Cleaning and Lubricating Actuator Rods: This rod connects directly to the valve gate itself and can gather dirt and corrosion over time. By maintaining both the external rod and the internal seals, this device will operate smoothly despite changing temperatures or dusty / dirty environments.

  2. Lubricating Remote Cables (if equipped): Often larger RV’s will have remotely operated valves located in the unit’s wet bay. These pull handles connect via cable to the actual valve closer to the hose connection. Because of the extended length and tight radiuses of some of these connection, proper cable lubrication is essential for extended service life.

  3. Leak Assessment: Due to the location of some of these valves, they will often begin slowly leaking before they present themselves as a bigger problem. By knowing where to test for tank content seepage and common connection failure points, a trained technician can often identify a minor problem before it becomes a vacation (or good shoes) ruining situation.
